Submission Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in the 32nd IAFFE Annual Conference which will run from July 3-5, 2024 in Rome. Read the full Call for Papers here.

Please read carefully through the following information before you start your submission.

This conference is an in-person conference with limited remote participation. There will be 72 on-site sessions, of which only a few will have hybrid access, reserved primarily for organized sessions and roundtables/panels/workshops. Remote participation in parallel sessions will be possible either through the few hybrid sessions or through remote-only sessions. Please note that remote paper submissions if selected, are likely to be allocated to remote-only sessions. 

The call for submissions is open for the following categories:

  • Paper presentations
  • Posters
  • Roundtables/Panels/Workshops
  • Organized sessions

When planning a panel/roundtable/workshop or an organized session, please consider including a young scholar. 

For all submissions:

  • Word limit per abstract: 400 words
  • Abstracts may be submitted in English, Italian or Spanish. Choose the relevant language track in Step 1. By default, the language of presentation is considered to be the language of submission. IAFFE will endeavour to arrange interpretation for as many sessions as possible.
  • The proposals will be reviewed by IAFFE’s Paper Selection Committee. See here for review criteria.
  • Notifications of acceptance will be sent by the end of December 2023. 

1. Paper Presentations 

Individual paper presentations will contribute towards IAFFE organized thematic sessions. We urge presenters to include the following in their abstract: motivation and contribution to literature, methodology and data sources, any preliminary findings/results of analysis. In addition to your abstract, you are welcome to upload a working paper if you have one (in Step 6). A working paper can be work-in-progress including an outline of the literature review, preliminary analysis and contributions.

2. Poster Presentations

A poster presentation allows you to interact face-to-face with people interested in your research. Posters should be no larger than A0 (84 cm wide by 119 cm long) in portrait format (landscape format is not allowed). Poster presenters must be available to present during a session hosted by the Conference Chair, Ipek Ilkkaracan, on 4 July. Poster submitters must be available at lunchtime on 4 and 5 July to present their posters.

3. Roundtables/Panels/Workshops

A roundtable or panel is an organized conversation on a specific topic. It will have one moderator and several speakers. We welcome submissions that propose interactive formats and workshops.

In submitting a roundtable/panel/workshop, please note the following:

  • You need to submit the title of your roundtable/panel/workshop and a short description of it in Step 3.
  • In Step 4, the corresponding author will be automatically considered as the chair of the roundtable/panel/workshop and all presenting authors as speakers.
  • In Step 6, you need to indicate the following information for each of your speakers: i. participation format (in-person, remote), ii. region of location and origin and iii. language. If remote, please also indicate the time zone they will be in at the time of the Rome Conference.

4. Organized Sessions

An organized session is a complete session in which several papers (ideally 4) are presented. The submission is made by the session organizer, and it is expected that each paper will be presented by a different presenter. We welcome organized session submissions with only 3 presenters/papers as this will give the Paper Selection Committee the opportunity to add a fourth paper or presenter to your session from the Paper submissions, particularly by young scholars.

In submitting an organized session, please note the following:

  • You need to submit the title of your organized session and a short description of it in Step 3.
  • In Step 4, the corresponding author will be automatically considered the chair of the session and all presenting authors as speakers.
  • In Step 6, you need to upload a document including the following information for each of your presenters: i. name, ii. institutional affiliation, iii. email address; iv. paper title, v. abstract, vi. language, and vii. participation format (in-person, remote). If remote, please also indicate the time zone they will be in at the time of the Rome Conference.

In submitting organized sessions, roundtables/panels/workshops, please note that we have limited capacity for hybrid parallel sessions. We encourage submissions of in-person only or remote only sessions. Any proposals for hybrid sessions accepted by the Paper Selection Committee will be accommodated to the best of our ability subject to limited space for hybrid sessions.

IMPORTANT: during the submission process you will have to choose topics related to your abstract. This step is crucial as abstract allocation to reviewers is based on the related topics. In order to avoid any delay and misallocation, please select the most relevant topic(s) for your abstract.

Unless otherwise agreed, all presenters are responsible for making their own travel and accommodation arrangements to participate in the Conference, as well as ensuring that they register within the set deadlines. IAFFE will only cover the costs of successful travel grant applicants.

BOOK OF ABSTRACTS

All accepted abstracts will be scheduled for oral or poster presentation and will be compiled in PDF format. A digital version of the book of abstracts will be available online.
