We will enjoy a typical Roman menu at this unique venue: one of the first spaces in Europe entirely dedicated to economic practices that seek to lower environmental impacts, guarantee a fair distribution of value, do not pursue profit and growth at any cost, and that put people and the environment first.

How do I get there?

La Città dell’Altra Economia is inside the Campo Boario of the former Slaughterhouse in Largo Dino Frisullo.

It can be reached by bicycle and by car: you will find racks and a large car park.

From Termini Station: Metro line B, get off at Piramide.

Città dell’Altra Economia/City of the Other Economy – CAE
Developed in the restored area of the Campo Boario in Testaccio (former Slaughterhouse): 3,500 square metres of exhibition, sales, events and meetings for the promotion of the other economy: organic and social agriculture, fair trade, renewable energy and green building, reuse and recycling, sustainable mobility, as well as a bookshop and toy library, a biobar and a bio-restaurant.

A place to promote conscious citizenship
The City of the Other Economy is one of the first spaces in Europe entirely dedicated to those economic practices that are characterised by the use of low environmental impact processes, that guarantee a fair distribution of value, that do not pursue profit and growth at any cost and that put people and the environment at the centre. The City was created as a place for the promotion of all the other Roman economy, offering the realities of the sector exhibition spaces, meeting places, training, research and development.

Exhibition and sale of products
The City is organised in spaces for the exhibition and sale of organic, fair trade, recycled and reused products. Operators from the renewable energy and green building sectors are on hand to provide information and services. A restaurant and bar offer food and drinks made from organic and fair trade products. A library dedicated to children and their parents.

Spreading culture and sharing knowledge
There are spaces in the city to hold conferences, seminars and training courses. The large square is used for fairs, markets, exhibitions and shows.

Participatory planning and management
The management project of the Consorzio Città dell’Altra Economia – CAE has an inclusive and open character. A Steering Committee consisting of a broad network of partners will provide guidance for the management and will be involved in the planning of activities.

Industrial archaeology and bio-architecture.
The headquarters of the City of the Other Economy occupies 3,500 square metres recovered from the building of the old Pese del Bestiame (cattle pens), the canopies and the shelters of the Campo Boario. The conservative restoration work, in keeping with the ethical purpose of the City of the Other Economy, was carried out according to principles of bio-architecture and with innovative solutions respecting the historical context. The project is part of the broader recovery of the Slaughterhouse area that will give rise to the City of the Arts.
