Svend-Age Biehs

Svend-Age Biehs

Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, Germany

Priv.-Doz. Svend-Age Biehs leads the Theoretical Quantum and Nano-Optics group at the Institute of Physics, University of Oldenburg in Germany. He earned his PhD from the same institution, having completed his studies in 2007. Following this, he served as a postdoctoral researcher for over two years at the Institut d’Optique in Palaiseau, France, in the group of J.-J. Greffet, supported by a grant from the Leopoldina (German National Academy of Sciences) and then returned to the University of Oldenburg. His research interests encompass various facets of nanoscale heat radiation, near-field infrared imaging, topological and non-reciprocal plasmonic systems, as well as energy, heat transfer, and entanglement in quantum systems. His contributions to the field of nanoscale radiative heat transfer were recognized with the Peter C. Waterman Award from Elsevier/JQSRT in 2014, the Prize for excellent research of the University of Oldenburg in 2016, the Gustav-Hertz Prize from the German Physical Society in 2019 and a Heisenberg Fellowship from 2018 to 2023 from the German Research Foundation.

Carsten Henkel

Carsten Henkel

University of Potsdam, Germany

Carsten HENKEL studied physics and mathematics in Kiel and Paris (Orsay), PhD 1996 in the group of A. Aspect. Since 2005 permanent researcher and professor of quantum optics (2015) at the University of Potsdam. Topics of interest include atom-surface interactions, near-field optics, macroscopic QED, the optical response of metals, and low-dimensional quantum gases.

Konstantinos Termentzidis

Konstantinos Termentzidis

INSA Lyon, France

Konstantinos TERMENTZIDIS (KT) is a CNRS Research Director at the CETHIL Laboratory at INSA of Lyon, France since 2017, with previous professional experience as CNRS Researcher at LEMTA, Un. Lorraine (2012-2017). He is Physicist with Bachelor and Master on Materials Science and Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and PhD from the Un. of Vienna, Austria. He uses atomistic simulations to study thermal and phonon properties in nanomaterials, nanostructures and through interfaces. He has developed models for heat transport through solid/liquid and crystalline/amorphous interfaces. His main scientific interest is the beyond-Fourier heat transport: eg. ballistic and hydrodynamic regimes, thermal rectification, phonon interference/localization/filtering. He is author of more than 100 manuscripts, editor of a book “Amorphisation and Thermal Properties” and several book chapters. KT is member of the Engineering Scientific Committee of the CNRS and member of the Solid State Physics National University Committee, and since 2020 director of the French National Laboratory Network of Nanomaterials for Energy Applications (GDR-NAME). KT was the main organizer of the NMHT-V conference at 2016.
