Education and Teacher Training Agency (ETTA)

Education and Teacher Training Agency (ETTA) is a public institution responsible for the provision of professional and advisory support in the area of general education in Croatia, from pre-school to secondary-school level. There has been an institute for teacher support since 1874, and its role has changed through time. Its legal predecessor, the Institute of Education of the Republic of Croatia was founded in 2002 and was re-named and restructured as Education and Teacher Training Agency in 2006. The main responsibilities of ETTA are in-service training of teaching and non teaching staff, first-licence examinations for novice teachers, the promotion of educational staff into higher ranks of mentors and advisors, and supervision. Based on the signed Cooperation Agreement with the Mémorial de la Shoah, ETTA is one of the organizers of three regional dialogues within the program the Holocaust as starting point. The first regional dialogue, the Balkan dialogue, was held with colleagues from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia in 2015, and it continues to this day. The second dialogue, the Adriatic dialogue, has started in 2018 with colleagues from Italy and Slovenia and it continues successfully. The third dialogue, in which the Holocaust is the starting point, was launched in 2020 with colleagues from Austria and Slovenia. ETTA’s national coordinator for Mémorial de la Shoah seminars and webinars is Loranda Miletić, senior adviser for history education.
