1001fontaines celebrates 20 years
of innovation and impact for access to drinking water
In September 2004, the founders of 1001fontaines were inspired with a visionary idea to expedite the accessibility of drinking water in developing countries by focusing on the daily requirement of 1.5 liters of water per person and crafting sustainable, high-quality, yet affordable solutions.
This is how the innovative “Water Kiosks” model came about. Set up in the context of rural Cambodia in the 2000s, these decentralized water treatment units have made it possible to produce drinking water in villages at a lower cost, by building local management capacity. This model has expanded across the country, now serving over a third of Cambodia’s rural population and providing more than a million people with access to safe drinking water.
With its unique impact, 1001fontaines has evolved into a hub of innovative projects, all aligned with our vision of a world where everyone can access clean water and lead healthier lives.
On the 25 th of September 2024, 1001fontaines will mark its 20th anniversary, with a celebration attended by our teams in Cambodia, Madagascar, Vietnam, and Bangladesh, along with all our supporters. Symbolizing how far we’ve come, from the dream of our founders to the present day, this event will be an opportunity to look back over our history, present our current initiatives, and share our ambitions for the future.
