ENHR Grand Paris 2025: Affordable Housing in Greening Cities
The 2025 ENHR Grand Paris Conference will explore the timely and urgent theme of Affordable Housing in Greening Cities from June 30th to July 4th in Créteil and Champs-sur-Marne. This event aims to bring together 400 researchers, policymakers, and housing practitioners to address a broad spectrum of housing issues—including affordability, social equity, and environmental sustainability—across Europe’s urban centers.
With climate change and air pollution increasingly affecting urban living conditions, the conference will focus on the socio-economic and urban impact of green urban interventions, such as energy-efficient retrofits and sustainable housing developments. Green initiatives can lead to paradoxical outcomes, such as “green gentrification,” where vulnerable populations face displacement as housing costs rise in eco-friendly neighborhoods. Studies indicate that wealthier households tend to benefit more from decarbonization efforts, which risks deepening urban fragmentation and socio-spatial inequalities.
Through plenary sessions, the conference will tackle questions such as:
- Balancing Social and Environmental Goals: How can we enhance housing energy efficiency without increasing socio-economic divides? And how can we use land to produce affordable housing while preserving biodiversity and farmland and avoiding urban sprawl?
- Public Policy and New Economic Models: What innovative governance and financial strategies can sustain accessible housing amid rising environmental standards and shrinking welfare budgets? Is public housing still a driver for sustainability and access to housing?
Researchers are invited to submit papers for thematic workshops addressing diverse housing-related topics.
In addition, participants can propose other types of events (panel discussions, collaborative workshops, exhibitions, more creative initiatives…).
This conference offers a unique platform to deepen the dialogue between researchers, policymakers, and urban practitioners.
The conference has received invaluable support from numerous institutions and professional organizations.
